The Workshop  the workshop

The one-day workshop is a great option if your looking for a fun filled day with the aim to learn all the basics of breakdancing.

warm up

The workshop contains a thorough stretching routine that involves the usual stretches for most high energy activities plus it also concentrates on specific muscles that are used for breakdancing. After the stretching routine the tutor will go through some fun activities to warm up the participants ready to learn the 'all element routine'.

the routine

After all the participants are warmed up and eager to learn some moves, the tutors will begin teaching the 'All Element Routine'. This routine itself contains all the elements of breakdancing, from the 'top rock' to 'footwork' such as six-step and eventually a 'powermove' and a 'freeze', all incorporated to create a fantastic overall routine.

the circle

The highlight of the workshop is 'The Circle'. This involves the participants creating a ring and taking it in turns to enter the centre to show the class what they have achieved throughout the workshop. This is a great way to build confidence and show off the new moves the participants have learnt. After the participants have entered the circle our tutors demonstrate some of their moves to encourage and inspire all the pupils involved in the break dance workshop.

the summary

Overall this workshop is a high energy dance activity with fun yet productive teaching techniques involved and professional demonstrations from some of the UK's top
B-Boys.

Courses  courses

If your looking to go further then the basics then a course should be the choice for you. Courses can run from 6-12 weeks, depending on what is suitable for you and how many moves/routines you would like to learn. In the past the dance tutors have seen pupils that start with absolutely no knowledge of b-boying progress rapidly throughout the course, gradually becoming true 'breakers'.

Throughout the course you will learn all the basic routines and moves and begin to move on to the more complex moves and routines within the dance. By going through the 'moves sheets' the tutors will breakdown the dance moves and make them easier to learn using a step by step teaching technique.

Choreographed Dance Piece  choreographed dance piece

This is the ultimate dance workshop option and proves to be very popular. Participants will be given the chance to learn all of the routines plus work with our top choreographer to put together a spectacular show/performance. The show option is suitable for both beginners and people with dance experience.

This proves to be the best option if you have a set group/crew that is keen to perform a dance piece. Over a period of 8-12 weeks the group will all be working together, towards a performance which not only gives reason for effort and determination but also a sense of achievement after the performance is over. In the past groups that have participated in urban edge dance shows have gone on to perform the piece around their county.

Testimonials  testimonials

"The Break Dancing workshop provided was outstanding. The students had a fabulous experience and learnt lots of new and exciting movements."

Jane Taylor - Huyton Arts and Sports Centre for Learning

"Urban Edge delivered a well tailored workshop for our dance leaders day. We were introduced to the history of B-Boying (Breakdancing) and learnt a variety of footwork steps and freezes which could potentially be incorporated in to street or contemporary classes. Dan was a sensitive and approachable tutor who managed to get the best out of us in a relatively short workshop. Everyone wanted more!"

Sarah Gardiner - Gloucestershire Dance
